WENS - Wireless Emergency Notification System
"WENS is easily the BEST Mobile Notification Solution on the market today. Unlike most other products, WENS has the relationships
with the carriers and is much more reasonably priced. Within minutes, we had four local Campuses up and running without any additional costs. Other companies
wanted to clearly price gouge due to VA Tech by over-charging."
- PA County EMA
"It's a no-brainer: Wireless text should be the basis for an emergency information system."
- USA Today
"Short Message Service (SMS) communications could be completed from cell phones (during Hurricane Katrina) because SMS stores and forwards messages when a radio frequency becomes available, whereas calls over telephone networks will not get through."
- CRS Report for Congress

Events
of 9/11 and the flooding of New Orleans demonstrated more than ever the
importance of immediate communication. UbeFree Media Services developed the
Wireless Emergency Notification System or WENS to meet this crucial need.
UbeFree's WENS platform enables local governments, municipalities, hospitals or Emergency Services to notify and communicate directly with citizens within the community or key emergency personnel. This was developed specifically for two main uses:
Campus Alerts/Notification: With the Shooting on Virginia Tech's campus, text alerts to mobile devices have been the highest priority with School Administrations. The WENS connectivity protocols to the Carriers ensures delivery in a timely manner, even during phone network overloads similar to the VA Tech campus scenario. Many leading Campus solutions do not offer this same level of reliability because they do not have priority on the Carrier networks. Also unlike other solutions, WENS cost much lower while offering unlimited users. Therefore, School Administrations can allow students, parents, Faculty, Campus Police, area Law Enforcement, etc. to use WENS without the worry of incurring additional expenses.Community Notification: This application allows local governments to stay in immediate contact with its citizens and allow them to be notified in the event of an emergency or pressing event. For example, a section on a city's website would allow citizens to enter their mobile number and elect to receive important alerts. This approach is much more valuable than typical email alerts because individuals are far more likely to have their cell phone with them than constantly being in front of their home computer. Therefore, in the event of a Tornado Warning, a city representative could either log into the City's WENS module and or send in a unique code via their mobile phone to send out an immediate warning in the form of a text message.

Emergency Personnel & COOP Notifications: With this WENS feature, authorized emergency personnel can quickly send original or pre-defined notifications and instructions, such as "Section 114 Power Outage" or "Second Shift - Please Report in for Duty" to specific groups or the entire organization in seconds. For example, the City's Fire Chief could instantly text in "CALL ALL CHEM" to the WENS System while on-site of a specific call. The system will interpret the contents of the message and immediately send out a notification to all stand-by fire department personnel to report in and prepare for a chemical disaster related call.
